So, I’m a big fan of vintage and vintage style clothes. I very rarely dress like I’m living in today’s world, and that’s how I like it. I’ve more or less always been this way since childhood; I remember begging my mum to buy me a dress I saw in a child’s boutique when I was about seven years old. Thankfully, she relented and I was soooo happy walking around and looking like Laura Ingalls (of Little House on the Prairie).

This has followed me up to adulthood. My fashion spans from the 1940s to the 1970s, depending on how I feel when I wake up that day. But because I’m a plus size woman, I find it difficult to find authentic vintage clothing from these periods. Thankfully, I’ve found many online retailers that feed my fashion sense, stores like Lindy Bop, Collectif, Hell Bunny, and Banned Retro to name a few. Even Amazon has some cute vintage style clothes, and also in plus size like the aforementioned stores.
While browsing the web, looking for a particular style of top that I’d seen on TV shows like The Darling Buds of May and The Durrells, I stumbled upon an online store called Cider.

Is Shop Cider like Shein?
I’m no fan of fast fashion, but I have fallen down that rabbit hole in purchasing stuff from Shein (it’s difficult for the curvy woman to find vintage style clothing that is actually accessible), and have purchased one or two things from them, namely 1970s style tops (thanks, Stranger Things and Taylor Swift!). Whilst the tops I purchased from Shein were okay in quality, a couple of dresses I bought were very cheaply made and of horrible material, so off they went to the charity shop.
After my experience with Shein, I was quite apprehensive about buying from another fast fashion online store. But I found on Shop Cider the top I was so desperately searching for. I looked at the reviews which were very positive, so decided to dive in and buy what I wanted. But I still had the mindset that I would be returning them as I’d convinced myself that the quality would be poor, despite the fact Cider is more expensive than other fast fashion retailers.
When my parcel arrived, I was so pleasantly surprised! The two tops I’d purchased were thick and well-made, and the dungarees were just lush. Everything I bought from Cider is so comfortable to wear – I was immediately tempted to buy more from them, but had to hold myself back! Time will tell on how durable these clothes are, but I am absolutely surprised by the quality of my Cider purchases. I can’t say I won’t buy from them again… 😉
Here are the items I purchased:
