The Best Place to See Cherry Blossom Trees in London: Greenwich Park

Cherry blossom trees at Greenwich Park, London

Spring has (kind of) sprung in London, and one of my favourite things about this season are the cherry blossom trees that bloom. It’s easy to spot an isolated cherry blossom tree in many areas of London, although I would say there seems to be more around this year than I’ve seen before. It adds a little something to my day when pink confetti-like petals fly through the open windows and make an otherwise mundane bus trip just that bit nicer.

In an effort to enjoy this season’s offering of cherry blossom trees, I headed to Greenwich Park. In recent times, the short grove that leads to the Ranger’s House, a lovely Georgian property, lined with cherry blossom trees has become a more widely known location and, for that, has become a hot spot for visitors of the park. And, I will admit, there were a lot of people there.

I’d visited the park only a couple of weeks before, when the trees were still bare, and only a man and his dog were sat in the area. But this time, it was a nice spring day, the sky was blue (mostly – this is England, after all!), the sun was out and it was more or less the first warm day we’ve had this year. This no doubt added to the numbers there, with most taking selfies and some had even brought professional photographers with them.

To be honest, from what I’d read about the grove of cherry blossoms, it was a little underwhelming. But that really isn’t to take away from the beauty it offers. A small grove lined with cherry blossom trees is bound to offer a spectacular sight, and if you’re in the area, it’s worth seeing. The nearest entrance to the cherry blossoms is via Blackheath Road, and from there it’s a short walk; you’ll no doubt spot them quite quickly.

But, a small tip: don’t just hang around that part of Greenwich park for glorious pictures of cherry blossoms. There are more cherry blossom trees dotted throughout the park, especially in the Flower Garden, with fewer people around, allowing for more uninterrupted pictures.
